Minorca is an island with a clear tourist vocation and since it was declared a Biosphere Reserve it also goes for an environmentally friendly quality tourist model. The most valued and exploited elements by Menorcan tourism are the island’s natural resources: white sandy beaches and coves in a natural environment, crystal waters, tranquillity, landscape, etc. But there are many other natural resources that can be used as well to carry out very attractive tourist and leisure activities that respect and are related to the exploitation of the environment.
One of these new resources is butterflies. In these indexes you will find general and specific information on each butterfly in Menorca: their habitat and behaviour; their flying period ; which similar species exist in Menorca and their importance within the Butterfly Monitoring Scheme (BMS); a diurnal butterfly monitoring programme created in Great Britain in 1976 and used by OBSAM in Menorca for the past five years.
